Crossing A New Threshold
The updated version of the Part M compliant level threshold drainage system, ACO DoorWay Drain, has a new lightweight channel body that is more robust, easier to handle and faster to install than its predecessor. Manufactured using ACO’s patented HexTechnology moulding technique and 100% recycled material, the new plastic channel - together with its unique two-part stainless steel Heelguard™ grating - is designed to sit flush against the entrance brickwork, providing complete threshold protection without the need to cut or alter the doorframe.
The HexTechnology-derived design surrounds and supports the channel with an interlinked hexagonal structural skeleton that provides exceptional rigidity and load bearing capacity. Weighing just 4kg (including the grating), the one metre channel is easy to handle and installation requires no special tools as eight ‘punch-out’ discs allow a 110mm outlet connection to be positioned at any location along the channel base. For draining to a soak-away, the installer need only remove the perforated cut-outs from one of the two end caps supplied.
To simplify installation yet further, ACO DoorWay Drain is now supplied in a boxed, ‘carry-out’ kit. Within the pack is everything needed to complete a standard single door level threshold drain: a one metre ACO DoorWay Drain channel (125mm wide) with two piece stainless steel grating, two end caps, one 110mm vertical outlet connector and a full set of installation instructions. For wider entrances above one metre, additional channels can simply be clipped together to create a single, continuous run.
“Developing the new channel around the HexTechnology structure has produced an exceptionally strong system that is easy to handle and install,” says Rob King, Product Manager at ACO Technologies. “Its two-piece brushed stainless steel grating not only provides a high quality finish, it also improves performance and eases access for cleaning. ACO DoorWay Drain is designed to have the door sill sit directly over the drain when the door is shut – this ensures all door surface water is collected and removed. This would normally obstruct a one piece grating, but the two piece design allows access at all times.”
ACO DoorWay Drain is compatible with all Part M (England and Wales) and Section 4 (Scotland) threshold doorframe assemblies. It is ideal for both refurbished and new build developments and refurbishment projects as it can be fitted right at the end of a project to avoid any unnecessary damage to the grating.
