Top marques for water efficiency

The Waterwise Marque – the first scheme in the UK to highlight water efficient products – is awarded annually to products that reduce water wastage or raise the awareness of water efficiency.  Only a handful pf Marques were awarded this year.  This is the second time Twyford Bathrooms has received the Waterwise Marque, the first was for the Galerie Flushwise WC in 2007.

Toilets are one of the top ‘consumers’ of water in the home, with 45 million domestic WC’s in the UK using an estimated 2 billion litres of water per day.  Because consumers do not replace their bathrooms often, approximately 40 million toilets in our homes flush on excessive amounts of water, between 13 and 7.5 litres per flush. 

Only 5 million domestic toilets flush with 6 litres in accordance with the current water regulations, which is unacceptable in today’s climate.  In fact, Government figures show that the average flush in the UK uses 7.5 litres of water; switching to the new Alcona WC, with its nominal 3 litre flush, will save a massive 4.5 litres per flush, an immense 60% saving.

All Twyford Flushwise products, including Alcona are manufactured to achieve the required UK flushing standard EN 997 Class 2; only product that conforms to this standard is guaranteed to clear the WC properly on every flush.

The Flushwise technology used in the Alcona collection is unique to Twyford Bathrooms.  It flushes at 4 or 2.6 litres and unlike most low flushing WCs, the Flushwise retains the power behind the flush, reducing the water required by up to 60%.  Alcona can be bought with confidence as in the event of any flushing problems, water volumes can be increased after installation with no re-plumbing required.

Alcona is complemented by the new water saving Aquations Low Flow brassware for both bathroom and kitchen. Its unique dual action delivers water at 2.5 litres a minute with one click back and 5 litres a minute with two clicks.  The householder can choose the rate of flow, but either way it saves water every time. The Aquations Low Flow single level kitchen monobloc provides a reduced water flow of 5L per minute.

The Alcona suite also offers style and choice, from the traditional full pedestal sink and close coupled WC to wall hung for a more contemporary look and a range of accompanying bathroom furniture to maximise space without compromising on style.  The WC also comes with the option of a soft close seat, a first for a suite at this price point.
