Yorkshire Housing sets a new benchmark for considerate construction
Out of 7600 building sites across the country, Yorkshire Housing has won the 2010 Considerate Constructors Award for the best managed building site. The T4 project, Beevor Court in Barnsley was praised by the judge as: “The best I have ever seen”, commenting that the scheme demonstrated what can be achieved with limited resources and sets a new benchmark for considerate construction.
The award was presented during a London ceremony to the project management team at Yorkshire Housing and the partner contractor Clayfield Construction.
Considerate Constructors Annual National Awards are given to the highest scoring building sites, which have completed in the previous year. The awards recognise building sites’ excellent standards of consideration towards their workforce, their neighbours and the environment.
Ged Walsh, Director of New Business and Development at Yorkshire Housing said: “Staff welfare facilities and community involvement were key to the success of this project. We encourage building sites to be a great place to work and the awards are a great way to support and recognise the work that goes into making sites safe and secure for staff, visitors and the environment. It is thanks to great partnership working with Clayfield Construction that Beevor Court has achieved the top score in the country”.
Yorkshire Housing and Clayfield Construction worked with local schools to facilitate a visit to a waste separation plant and worked with a local football club to clear the ground of Japanese Knotweed
Richard Watson, Joint Managing Director at Clayfield Construction said: “Beevor Court was a brownfield site chosen for the construction of support accommodation. We paid particular attention to environmental concerns and tightly controlled energy usage, waste and use of materials. Bat and owl boxes were provided in the adjacent woodland and a unique habitat for slow-worms was carefully created.”
In its site report the development was praised for its scrupulous standards of cleanliness and overall presentation and its commitment to every aspect of considerate site practices. Yorkshire Housing also picked up a bronze award for its site at Aldham House Lane with contractor Bramall Construction.
