New Polyoil to heat-up demand in the oil tank market

Polygroup, whose brands include Polytank water storage tanks, has moved into the oil storage market with the launch of its new Polyoil range.

The result of a 5-year development programme including close collaboration with stockists, installers and users, the new, patented Polyoil 1200SB is, claims Polygroup, different to anything else currently available on the domestic oil storage tank market and represents a major advance in oil tank design and specification.

Rotationally moulded from UV-stabilised medium density polyethylene, the 1200 litre capacity tank combines an attractive design with real practical benefits and eco-friendly features, as Polygroup Managing Director, Gary Fidler, explains:

“Polyoil has a slimline profile in a choice of green or rustic oak-effect finishes. This design not only reflects the market’s preference and demand for slimline tanks, but is also intended to complement our range of slimline water butts.

“Measuring 1700mm x 850mm x 1620mm and weighing in at only 100kg, Polyoil is some 40kg lighter than similar products currently on the market. This low weight and the fact that the tank is supplied complete and fully preassembled make it easier to install,” he added.

Polyoil is only available as a top outlet, bunded oil tank, which Fidler said is “what the Environment Agency is calling for”.

“Bottom outlet tanks are more prone to leaks and spillages when drawing off oil from the tank, even when bunded,” says Fidler. “The Polyoil bund acts like a second skin and provides extra protection. In the unlikely event of an oil leak or spillage from the main tank into the bunded area, an electronic alarm alerts the user”.

The standard Polyoil pack includes the tank, bund, bund cover, access lids and suction pipe, which are all fitted and extended to the outside of the bund. All the installer has to do is connect the 10mm copper pipe supplied to the suction pipe. The pack also includes a Polysonic ultrasonic and visual contents gauge, bund alarm and 2in fill with overfill protection.

The Polysonic oil level monitor reads the oil level in the tank, and sends the information to an indoor receiver. This gives users a warning when fuel levels drop in the tank, helping to ensure that the tank never runs too low on fuel. It also allows the oil company to monitor the filling process when adding fuel to the tank.

Polyoil comes with a five-year manufacturer’s guarantee, which Fidler describes as “environmentally responsible”. Fittings are guaranteed for 12 months.

“We recommend that the tank is replaced after 10 years and should not be used at all after 15 years of service. This is because oil gradually leeches through plastic over time. Our guarantee reflects this fact and we believe it would ecologically irresponsible for us to offer a longer guarantee period.”

Polyoil is available from all leading Builders, Plumbers and Heating Merchants across the UK.
