Viridis Homes launches into UK affordable housing market
A new modular home that combines the latest technology and construction techniques was unveiled recently by Viridis Homes. Quicker and cheaper to build than a traditionally constructed building, Viridis Homes can erect its flagship buildings for just £81,703 per home and in as little as 48 hours.
A Viridis home is not only the most cost and time efficient modular home on the market but, by blending the latest modular construction techniques with a unique use of technology, a Viridis Home is also the first in the UK to use the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) level 5 compliant technology.
Led by Viridis Homes’ Managing Director – Alex Jubb – climate change, rising energy costs and a shortage of affordable housing were the inspiration behind the project to reduce the amount of energy we use to build and run our homes.
Alex comments: “This is a leap forward in sustainable design and engineering. Our modular homes will allow Social Housing Providers to meet government targets to provide fast, affordable and sustainable housing – it only takes 48 hours to erect a Viridis Home. As the UK’s first modular home of this standard we hope to show the way forward to a cheaper and greener future.”
The running costs of a Viridis home are significantly less than a conventional build. Occupants can save almost 50% on their heating and hot water bills and can expect to enjoy a further 20% reduction in how much they spend on electricity*. This adds up to an impressive minimum saving of approximately £600 per year.
As the homes are manufactured in a carefully controlled factory environment, there is also a significant reduction in snagging issues compared to conventional builds. Furthermore, because each home is built, delivered and assembled for a fixed price – the chance of exceeding budget targets is significantly reduced.
Constructed with a timber frame, a Viridis home offers excellent insulation properties for both heat and sound, ensuring greater warmth and privacy. What’s more, the NHBC (National House Building Council) reports fewer problems with timber framed buildings.
Viridis Homes offer a wide selection of different finishes and aesthetic features. You can individualise the look and feel of your development in accordance with planning policy or your organisation’s construction styles. Changes can be made to the solar heating or under-floor heating, and a variety of roof, brick, tile and wallpaper finishes are also available.
A Viridis Homes has an excellent pedigree behind it. In 2007, its sister company Joal Leisure provided over 450 homes used to re-house victims of the widespread flooding in the North and West of England.
HRH Prince Charles and then Prime Minister Tony Blair visited its pre-eminent temporary accommodation development, showing their support for the victims and organisations providing aid in the affected areas.
A host of key figures including; Politicians David Eccles and Phil Gray from the Welsh Assembly Government’s Climate Change and Water Division; Keith Robertson from the Welsh Assembly Government’s Department for Economy and Transport; Francois Samuel from the Welsh Assembly Department for Environment Sustainability and Housing; and councilors Dilwyn Roberts and Merfyn Thomas attended the launch in Porthmadog, Gwynedd.
